We will visit the southern part of Slovenia, which is known as the Littoral Wine-Growing Region (Primorska vinorodna dežela). It has two of Slovenia’s most widely known and prominent wine districts, the Gorizia Hills (Goriška brda) and Koper districts. It is subdivided into four districts. The Brda district borders the Italian wine region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia with the Gorizia Hills Denominazione di origine controllata (DOC). This region was one of the first in Slovenia to make a concentrated attempt to establish an international reputation for quality. The area is planted with international varieties of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Sauvignon blanc, Pinot gris (Sivi Pinot), and Pinot noir (Modri Pinot) as well as Ribolla Gialla (Rebula), Refosco (Refošk) and Friulano. Brda region is best known for its Rebula white wine and Merlot-Cabernet blends.
The Koper district on the Istrian peninsula along the Adriatic coast is the warmest wine region in Slovenia. The Refosco and Malvazija grapes are the most widely planted in Koper. The Karst plateau district, located near the Italian city of Trieste, is known for the wine style Teran which is a very dark, highly acidic red wine made from Refosco grapevines planted in the red iron-rich soil region’s. Also other varieties of wine grape can be found in this region include Piccola nera. (source Wikipedia)
The tour includes a visit to the Vina Koper winery in the Koper district. A magnificent wine cellar reveals all the secrets behind the creation of Vina Koper’s world-class wines. You will learn about the history, curiosities and details that make their wines so special. You will experience the sun in a glass in a cosy atmosphere. A visit to Koper is then planned, with some free time to stroll along the coast. Koper is a picturesque Slovenian port town that combines rich history with Mediterranean charm. Medieval Venetian palaces adorn the old town, while a lively promenade winds along the seafront, creating a vibrant seaside atmosphere.
